Speech Privacy Systems Produce A Better Working Environment

by Frank Barnett

Speech privacy systems offer many advantages in the busy and often noisy office. Such offices have additional stress for harried employees as well as inhibiting the private exchanges that may be required for office security and proprietary information.

Productivity is also impaired in a noisy environment where it is difficult to hear and to think. Sound masking - otherwise known as white noise - is among the methods used to control the problem of office noise and lack of privacy. Sound masking controls the distraction of background chatter and decreases the whole perception of ambient noise.

When you work in an open office environment, the other people in the office can hear what you are talking about. Obviously, this is a reason to have a speech privacy system. It is a fact that the noise of other conversations make it hard to concentrate and cause less work to be done. More work can be done if the distractions are removed.

Speech privacy systems increase privacy and lessen the effect of background noise from office equipment or conversations. The most recent systems are even quieter than before due to advances in technology.

Some of the benefits of speech privacy systems may not be obvious at first glance, but studies show that distracting noise also causes more repetitive stress injuries because distracted workers are less likely to make adjustments to their environment than those who perceive a quieter workspace environment. Workers in quieter or noise controlled offices are also more likely to take on difficult problems and to solve them.

While open offices have major advantages in accessibility and affordability, they also lead to much higher levels of ambient noise because there are fewer barriers to block sound. Modern technology, such as speech privacy systems, have been deployed to reduce background noise.

Special technology makes speech sound masking possible while allowing for such desirable options as pleasant background music. The same speakers used to generate masking sound can play music and can also be utilized for other purposes such as paging and call systems. The cost of such systems is easily regained by a more productive and focused work force.
